Gardening with Kids

April 30, 2019

Whether you have room for a acre mini-farm or a single pot in a sunny window, your child can benefit from growing things!

Growing something can be very satisfying and exciting so why not share the experience with your child? Also, children can learn science when you talk about roots, leaves, and the need for water and light and math by counting seeds and measuring distances when planting.

Here are some great books for you as parent or caregiver to find information about gardening with a child:

newWidth) { wasResized = true; return jQuery(iframe).width(newWidth); } if (wasResized && originalWidth + 2*padding < viewPortWidth){ wasResized = false; return jQuery(iframe).width(originalWidth); } }; //-->

These books are great stories to read with your child about growing flowers or vegetables:

And don't forget! Nashville Public Library has a Seed Exchange program where you can check out seeds for free at 15 different library locations.

Miss Terri has worked at three different branches of Nashville Public Library since 2002. She's currently the head of the Children's Department at the Green Hills Branch Library. When she isn’t working, she is usually hanging out with her dog Boo. Isn’t he cute?
